We are a structural engineering consulting firm that was founded to provide exceptional, professional service to owners and managers of large scale residential and commercial buildings in the Mid-Atlantic region. We specialize in the evaluation, restoration, and repair of existing commercial buildings. We offer practical and cost effective solutions to meet our client’s goals by addressing building defects such as water intrusion, building settlement, construction defects and deterioration due to old age. We have just about seen it all: masonry (reinforced and unreinforced), concrete (conventional, pre-stressed, and post tensioned), steel, wood, light gage metal, stone, carbon fiber, EIFS, stucco, siding, and aluminum.

Our Founder

Christopher W. Carlson, P.E., SECB
President
Christopher W. Carlson, P.E., SECB has been practicing structural engineering for over 30-years and is an expert in structural restoration, waterproofing, and concrete repair. He has evaluated over a thousand structures in the Mid-Atlantic region including condominiums, apartments, office buildings, retaining walls, parking garages, and underground tanks. He also has extensive experience in the evaluation and repair of balconies, plazas, building facades, site drainage, structural strengthening, and condensation conditions. He has provided expert testimony related to structural engineering, building envelope, moisture protection, building repair and construction defects. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from University of Maryland and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Maryland, Georgia, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the District of Columbia. He has written many articles and presented seminars related to building maintenance and repair. Additionally, he is active in professional societies and organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Welding Society, International Concrete Repair Institute (national committees and local chapter leadership including past-president), Air Barrier Association of America (national committee) and Community Associations Institute (Washington Metropolitan Chapter Committee Co-Chair and Chesapeake Chapter).
